The thumshare forum research project

Mon Mar 14, 2005, 11:10 AM
The thumbshare forum has always been a topic of controversy. Some argue that it's the lowest point of this site, and some others say it helps artists by giving them more exposure and comments.

This fight has always been based on opinions. So far, there has never been (to my knowldge) an objective research about said forum, and that's what I want to do here. Do our fellow deviants use the forum as a way of improvement or as a way to be more popular and add units to a counter?

After a small exchange of comments with *humansacrifice, the idea of applying the methods of an statistical research to answer that question came out.

I isolated all the comments (2666) on the thumbshare forum that were asking for critique or displaying a thumbnail of a deviation. After numbering them I calculated an appropriate sample size and randomly picked them. That leaves a list of 49 deviations that range from 3D renders to traditional drawings, from photography to designs and interfaces.

The next step is to give an objective comment on all those deviations and register the response to it. This is were the help is needed.

So, if you'd like to contribute the task is easy. Just leave a comment or send me a note saying that you want to participate and state the category you want to give comments on.

Keep in mind that all the critiques must be objective.

Hmm...

Interesting study, and I wish you luck with it. I am interested in hearing the results of your analysis, especially if you can keep it purely scientific.

Well, I consider myself good with objective critique. I can critique pixel art, ASCII and pencil drawing, maybe some miscellaneous stuff too.
I'll do this.
I can critique prose and poetry.

Screw all you haters :shakefist:
add this comment to your signature and show that we wont stand for a world of hatred, thank you
Forty nine wouldn't be a problem - you can sign me up if you want, and I'll do it tonight when I'm drunk. That guarentees maximum objectivity. :)

A storm is rising.
I'll note you the whole list. Some already have comments, but it would be great to see reactions to different kinds of comments.

Please don't comment drunk :please: ;P

I still need people :)

There's only one deviation in the 3D category though. I'll note you the link.

Thanks for participating

Great :)

I'll note you all the photography deviations and you can pick which ones to comment. I'll be monitoring them to see the reactions, if you get any reply via notes or in your userpage, please tell me.

Thank you very much :)
